About the event

All agencies recognise the negative impact of people going missing. A missing person is exposed to unnecessary risk, is negatively impacted in terms of health and wellbeing and in a small number of cases it can lead to death.

Every year Police Scotland receive over 30,000 calls reporting people missing and we recognise that a robust and consistent partnership approach is critical to prevent people going missing in the first place and to locate them quickly in the event of a missing episode.

Our Missing Persons Protocol is for all practitioners who would be involved in the prevention, response, support and protection of children and adults who are at risk of or go missing. Our aim within this protocol is to build on the existing good work within Dumfries and Galloway in line with the National Missing Persons Framework for Scotland (NMPF). The purpose of this protocol is to ensure that there is a multi-agency localised response to the NMPF in Dumfries and Galloway, to build on the aims set out in the NMPF - to prevent people going missing and limit the harm to those who have gone missing (NMPF, Scottish Government, 2017).

Dumfries and Galloway’s Public Protection Partnership is committed to ensuring that preventative measures reduce the number of episodes that people go missing, professionals respond appropriately, support is provided following missing episodes and vulnerable people are protected to reduce the risk of harm.

This online event will give valuable insight into the new protocol as well as discussions around Return Discussions, the future of localised training and our work with Missing People UK.

This training is conducted by DI Scott Wilson, Clare Cowan and Sandie Donald.
