Cocaine and Psychostimulants Training

Training overview

This facilitator-led course provides an in‑depth exploration of the key issues surrounding psychostimulant use in Scotland, including cocaine and New Psychoactive Substances (NPS). Participants will learn about the effects, impacts, and effective approaches for supporting individuals who use stimulants.

The session is interactive and practical, offering a valuable opportunity to enhance your knowledge and confidence while learning alongside colleagues from across the sector.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • identify current and emerging trends in cocaine and psychostimulant use, including NPS
  • recognise the physical and psychological effects and understand the broader impacts of stimulant use
  • develop awareness of effective strategies and techniques for working with people who use cocaine, other psychostimulants, and NPS, including harm reduction approaches

Informed level: This course supports the baseline knowledge and skills expected of those entering the drugs and alcohol workforce.

This training is suitable for staff across Dumfries and Galloway who may encounter individuals affected by stimulant use, including:

  • health and social care staff
  • third sector organisations
  • community and housing staff
  • substance use and recovery services
  • emergency services
  • any workers supporting people who may be affected by stimulant use
