Training overview

This training will make you feel more confident when supporting families (including children and young people) affected by imprisonment.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the training session, participants should be able to:

  • Better understand the impact of imprisonment on children and families, including the most common issues facing families
  • Give examples of how a family might be affected at each stage of the criminal justice process
  • Understand the emotional and practical needs of children affected by imprisonment
  • Understand the most relevant articles within the UNCRC which relate to children with a parent in prison
  • Apply their knowledge when supporting families affected by imprisonment and feel confident when supporting families in their own role
  • The training incorporates a mix of learning styles and provides opportunities to interact with other participants from different professional backgrounds and sectors.
  • Participant interaction is encouraged in smaller breakout room discussions and whole group discussions.

Families Outside’s training is suitable for any professional who comes into contact with families in their own role and wants to feel more confident when supporting families (including children and young people) affected by imprisonment.

This training has been advertised previously with minimal if any changes. So please double check you haven't previously attended prior to booking.

We will confirm in an email whether you are successful or not gaining a spot onto this training. If you have been unsuccessful this time it is due to the training number cap. If you are unsuccessful there will be another opportunity to attend this training in the future.

Once your position is confirmed on our training, it is a mandatory requirement to let us know if you can no longer attend our multi-agency training and the reason why. This is due to the fact our multi-agency training attracts significant preparation time, and we would like to maximise attendance.  

If you can no longer attend our training, you may wish to consider nominating a staff member to attend on your behalf from your department. If you do this let us know by contacting us.
